Tis the Season Challenge

Hi friends. It's been a while since I have written a blog post. I thought that my card I made for the Tis the Season challenge had posted last week. I haven't had a chance to look at it but I just did and it's not there. I am so sorry! Grr!!

It is late and I am so sleepy so I am going to make this very short and sweet. Here was our inspiration

And this is what I came up with to showcase it best

To be honest, I really had something different in mind but it was late in the afternoon when I was able to get this finished so I had to go with it. I do love how white craft ink looks against black paper. The chalkboard effect or as I wanted it to look a snowy effect.

Hope that this gave you some inspiration to join us for our challenge.

We do have a few challenge rules we'd like to ask you to follow:
  • Your project must be a new Christmas project created for this challenge.
  • We ask that you provide a link back to our site or use the Challenge Graphic within your post.
  • If you combine challenges please limit them to no more then 4 including ours.
  • You are welcome to use any Brand of product you'd like.
  • HAVE FUN!!!
The Challenges are open for 2 weeks so there is plenty of time to play along. We will close the challenge on Tuesday June 3rd @ 12pm EST

Can't wait to see what you create! Happy Stampin!

Feel Better

Good morning! It's a busy day here in the Johns household. I was able to get in a little crafting last night after the youngest went to sleep so I decided to play along with The Friday Mashup challenge.

They have created a beautiful sketch along with a Get Well theme. I knew exactly what I would use for this card!!

I pulled out my On The Mend stamp set and dies from Lawn Fawn! They are just so adorable and would help anyone feel better. I also used the Hello Sunshine paper pad from Lawn Fawn as well. It all came together rather quickly which was good as I needed to get in to bed early.

How cute is that Kleenex box? The smily face just makes it light up and I instantly felt better and I'm not even sick. The sequins and circle dies are also from Lawn Fawn. Is it obvious how much I love their products!! One of my absolute favorite companies!!

I'm off to have breakfast with some girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. Hope you have a great day!

Happy Stampin

Manic Mondays

It's here. It's finally here. No not Monday but the LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL! I don't know who is more excited. My 7th grader or me. No more alarms to set, packed lunches or picking out clothes.

We had a rather lazy weekend. It's the first weekend in 3 months that Caleb didn't have a basketball game. Chris and I also celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary on Saturday. We celebrated on Friday night by going to dinner at our favorite sushi restaurant and enjoyed about an hour and a half of adult time. It was much needed and very enjoyable.

I never have a clue what to get him for his birthday, Christmas or his anniversary. He wants something he usually buys it for himself. This time was no different. I decided on making him something for his office. He cleaned it up last week and it looks so nice and cozy in there. I had the idea of making him some coasters for his desk. I went to Lowe's to get the individual tiles as they are only 16 cents a piece.

They come in glossy white.

He's a Bama fan and I had some old fabric laying around. I decided to use Mod Podge to adhere it to the tile and it worked perfectly. You have to add a layer to the tile and then put the piece of fabric over it. Smooth it out starting from the middle to get rid of any air bubbles.

I then added about 2-3 layers of the Mod Podge to the the fabric paying close attention to the edges of all the fabric to make sure that it was secured to the tile.

Once the were all dried, I added a piece of felt the bottom with my hot glue gun and they were ready to give to him as his gift. I tied a black ribbon around it to give a cute feel and he loved them. He usually doesn't get too excited about handmade gifts but he really seemed to like this one! Score!

Here are what they all four look like all finished. So pretty even though they would be much prettier i in orange and blue and said Go Gators. Haha

They will look good in his new clean and decorated office. Happy Anniversary Baby! I love you.

Sharing my post with the Link Party at Skip to my Lou!

Hope you had a great weekend and have an even better Monday.

Still time to join....

Hi friends! It's the second week of Tis the Season and Jingle Belles merging together for a pretty awesome sketch and bling challenge. You can find the original post here.

I was asked to create another project that shows both challenges. I never need an excuse to get in my craft room and make something. This one turned out especially cute and it makes me wish for Christmas!

I used an old embossing folder from Stampin Up that I think is called Starburst. So sorry for not knowing it off the top of my head. I used 2 Project Life Seasonal cards from a Becky Higgins collection for the snowflake paper and blue lined paper. Just cut it down to the size I needed and wa-la it worked great. The letters making the word JOY are from a Heidi Swapp set and the Christmas rub on is from a very old set from Making Memories. I love pulling out old product that hasn't been used in so long and put it to good use. Then I decided to use some red sequins to finish it out.

Hope you are able to join us before the challenge is over. We would love to see what you create.

Tag 'Em Tuesday

Could this be two posts in one day? No you have not entered the Twilight Zone. I am really posting twice in one day. I am on a roll entering the challenges and I want to keep it up. When I saw the color challenge over at Sunday Stamps I just knew I had to play along. They are so bright and cheerful.

(Melon Mambo, Coastal Cabana & Black)

I was able to get my hands on some new Lawn Fawn stamps a few weeks ago and I have been itchin' to use them. I figured this was as better time as any.

I used the Float My Boat stamp set from Lawn Fawn. I have wanted to get my hands on this set since the moment I found it. I guess these aren't traditional colors for a nautical theme but I figured that there isn't a rule against that. I love the way the colors all go together and pop against the black. I also used the speech bubble border which is so simple but yet adds so much to a project.

I love how they turned out. It makes me think of fun gift cards and tags to use for a girls birthday party. Hope you enjoyed my project for Tag 'Em Tuesday!

Have a great evening!

Way To Go!

Good morning. This young lady feels old today. I guess that's what happens when you go out on a school night and don't get home until 12:30 in the morning. Yes, ladies I was a partier last night. I went to see CHER for the FOURTH TIME. It was the best one yet. I had an amazing time with amazing friends and would do it all over again!

I've loved her since I was a little girl. I get crazy looks about it but its one of those things that I just don't care about. I will go to every concert that I can until she really does stop touring!

Yesterday before I had to get ready to leave I made the time to work on a card for a few challenges. I entered one that is my first and one that I haven't entered in a long time.

I was inspired by the sketch at As You See It Challenge and the colors from The Paper Players.

I really loved pairing these colors togethers. They are bright and makes me think of Spring time.

Once I took the picture I realized just how much I loved the background. The blue sky and green grass are just beautiful. Everything is starting to grow here in Georgia and it makes me smile.

Hope you have a great day!

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all my family, friends and blogger friends. I have had a wonderful day. I love being with my boys all day. They make my life complete and I'm so thankful to be their Mama. As usual, I had to beg them to take pictures but even though I have to beg they smile for me.

They aren't the best pictures but they document today and they will work perfect in my PL album. Isn't that what all pictures are about anyway. Can you tell I'm a crafter or what?

I am unable to share my PL album for the week as last week was the week from HE double hockey sticks. I didn't feel like I was ever going to catch a break. Between waking up on Wednesday morning with a flooded bathroom, guest room and basement due to a backed up pipe between our house and the septic tank. Needless to say, we had a very smelly problem on our hands. We had plumbers, a restoration/cleaning company in and out of the house all week. Then on Thursday, the hubby took himself to the hospital for high BP and a few other health related issues. He was in there for 4 days but they were able to get to the root of a lot of problems. He had to celebrate his birthday in there and didn't get to start out Mother's Day with us this morning. Thankfully he is home now and feeing better.

While the boys were sleeping this morning I was able to get a little crafting in and it was nice. I found a couple of new challenges and decided to make something for one of them. It is called Catherine and Cathy Create. They have a 3 different challenges that take place during the month. For this month, one of the challenges is to make a card that was baby related. I knew exactly what I was going to use.

I pulled out my new DSP paper and baby framelits that are in the new catalog coming out in less than a month. It was a perfect reason to use it.

CCC #032: May 2014 Cards Challenge

CHALLENGE: Rock-a-Bye Baby

It's time to stock up on making your baby cards - it could be a baby shower, a welcome baby, a christening, a card with a baby on it!! Anything baby but it has to be a card!

I love that the paper is so neutral. It doesn't scream boy or girl. Unfortunately, I don't have many people having babies right now but maybe someone will so I can share this card.

Even though the picture turned out better than they have been lately it looks like I used Tangerine Tango instead of Crisp Cantaloupe. I guess either way it looks pretty darn cute. Someone needs to have a baby soon so I can send this to them!

I used Versamark to add some fun flowers to the Baked Brown Sugar paper and then added a white dot to give it a pop. Even though its a pretty simple card the white gel pen helps add a lot of dimension to the card.

I am glad I found this new challenge and hope to be able to join the other challenges this month.
Hope this inspired you to get out your craft supplies and join along as well.

Happy Stampin!

It's Saturday & I Made a Card!

Wow! What a busy morning it has been already. My oldest had his last game for the winter basketball league today at 8am. Waking up two boys earlier than 7:00am on a Saturday is torture. They did pretty good after about 30 minutes. I almost offered the toddler coffee to see if that would help after his 4th meltdown. It was either that or I was going to sit in the middle of the floor and join him.

We finally all pulled it together and headed out around 7:20. The green light gods were on our side and traffic wasn't bad at all. We pulled up right at 8:00 so technically we got there right on time! GO US!

I am so proud of what Caleb has achieved since joining this league. He has shown much improvement and shows through his work that this is a true passion of his. He finished out this game with 4 points to help lead his team to a win. He is ready for a little time off before summer camps start.

Since we had an early morning Noah actually closed his eyes around 12:15 to take a nap. I couldn't be happier when I looked over and saw that sweet face so peaceful and quiet. I cherish those moments lately.

I made a direct bee line for my craft room so I could have a little time to be crafty. I haven't made a card for a challenge in far too long so I decided to do that today. I went by to my local scrapbook store, EMI Scrapbooking to look at a new line by Teresa Collins. It is so pretty.

I looked at a few challenge blogs and decided to go with the sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches.
(Click on image and it will direct you to their website)

The new line from Teresa Collins that I picked up is called Wonderful and it is definitely the right word for it. It has beautiful colors and is perfect for Spring. I didn't use a whole lot of it in my card but I plans for a few more cards.

I love how you can just use card stock but use embossing folders to add texture and it makes a beautiful card. The woodgrain folder is one of my favorites!

Now I have to clean up this terrible mess I have made on my desk. It never fails. It will be clean one minute and a disaster the next. Guess that's the life of a crafter!

Thanks for stopping by and taking a look at my card. Happy Stampin!

TTS16 Sketch Challenge

Good morning and Happy Thursday. This week is almost over and thank goodness it is. We had terrible plumbing problems here at our house yesterday. There were men every where trying to get the problem under control. They will be back today to try and finish everything.

To take my mind off of it all, I am sharing with you the new challenge over on the Tis the Season blog. We have an extra fun twist for you this time. We are teaming up with the Jingle Belles blog to give you 2 challenges to use for your project.

There will be PRIZES on both blogs for the winners. Did I see your ears and eyes perk up at the mention of the word prize? Believe me, I do the same thing when I see that word. It gives me hope and something to achieve.

Our challenge is a sketch and theirs is to add bling! Who doesn't love to add a little bling? And to have a sketch in front of you to take the thinking out of it is just genius! Okay, I'm getting a little crazy. It has to be the fumes that are floating around my house.

So... let me show you the sketch and my project so you can run to your craft room or supplies and get started!!

I decided to go a little bit country with my Christmas bard this time around. I love the 6x6 Christmas pad by Authentique that helped this card come together. The stamp set has been sitting in my stash for far too long and was just begging to be used. I added the sequins to give it the bling that it needed.

Making these cards every other week gets me more and more excited for Christmas to arrive. It's my "most wonderful time of the year!"

Please say you'll join us! Please! I promise you will have fun! Make your project, link it up at the Tis the Season blog or the Jingle Belles blog and then check out what all the design team members have made to share with you.

We will close the challenge on Tuesday May 20th  at 12pm EST

Tis the Season to let those Jingle Belles Rock!!!

Shaker Card Tutorial

Let's talk videos. You know those things you've never seen on my blog.... until NOW! Yes, I took the plunge and I filmed a video. Now you need a few things before you click on that play button.

1. The video you will watch is not professional.

2. I say the word "Um" far more times than needed.

3. It's obvious that I like to use my hands as a way to express myself when I talk.

4. I need to run not walk to learn how to edit videos.

5. You will have to watch the video sideways as that is the way it filmed and I can't figure out how to fix it. I do apologize if you get a neck cramp.

You will believe all the above once you watch the video. Hopefully, you will feel sorry for me and watch all the way to the end. Speaking of the end, you will hear a phone ring. It was my husband calling to tell me he couldn't find our oldest after school. I panicked for a minute and then realized that he had band practice until 5. See the pressure I'm under when I try and figure out something new and exciting. I forget things like my son.

All in all, I think I will take the plunge again and make another. I promise to make sure it's not sideways. I promise to leave my hands still and not say Um. Okay, who am I kidding, that will take some work.

Here is the picture of the finished shaker tag/card. They are so fun to make and even more fun to shake once you are done. It's the little things in a crafter's world that gets you excited.

This blog post will take the place of Tag 'Em Tuesday. I guess in some ways you could make this or something similar as a tag so it's not too far off the trail.

I do hope that this was helpful in some ways. Please let me know if you have any questions. I will be more than happy to answer them.

Happy Stampin,

Scrapbook Sunday

Another weekend has come and gone. Sometimes it comes and goes in a blink of eye.

For all of my crafty friends, I hope you had a fabulous National Scrapbooking Day yesterday. I had a fabulous day and I will share all about it tomorrow. I loved seeing all of the giveaways on Facebook pages and blogs of designers and companies. Yes, I tried to enter every single one that was offered. I haven't won yet but I've got my fingers and toes crossed that I see my name pop up somewhere!!

Today I am starting a new segment on the blog called Scrapbook Sunday. I have started my Project Life album for 2014. Yes, I am aware that it is now May. I'm trying to ignore the fact that I am 5 months behind and just push forward. I started with this past week and will work on current and work backwards. I'm going to try and not let it discourage me.

I hope that you will join me in this segment by encouraging me to keep pushing on. I would love to start a Link Party every Sunday for anyone to share what they've been doing the past week. I will first have to learn how it works to get started. If you have any advice, please leave me a comment :)

Here is what my first page for the last week of April and first week of May looks like.

Week 18 (April 28-May4)

I'm happy with it being that it's the first page I've done since last year. Once I got started, it was like second nature to me. It's so much fun to journal what the pictures are trying to say. I love plundering through all of my stuff (and believe me, it's a lot) to find that perfect sticker or embellishment. My Sihouette Cameo is my favorite tool to use for these pages. It has everything you want if you don't have it in your stash.

Here are close-ups of each pocket and the products used:

I decided to make the top row a pirate theme. Even though the red, black and white with polka dots made me think of Mickey Mouse the entire time it also screamed pirates.

Cardstock- SU Whisper White & Basic Black
Patterned Paper- Simple Stories 6x6 Snap Color Vibe Paper Pad
Date- Dear Lizzy Rotary Stamp
Week #- My Favorite Things Calendar Components

Here I cut the 6x4 photo in half to allow it to fit in the 4x3 pockets. My youngest is a big pirate fan. Along with a snake fan. And a shark fan. You will see more pictures in the future with a shark. I am sure of it. He popped on this pirate hat while he was carrying his snake and juice around. I ran to the kitchen to grab my phone so I could snap a picture. I loved that one of his eyes are closed to make him look like a little pirate.

Cardstock- SU Basic Black
Pen- White Uni-ball Gel Pen

I found a skull & crossbones in my Silhouette Studio that went perfectly with this layout. It didn't look too scary as some of them tend to do. I cut him out twice in white and black so I could inlay the die cut and make it look like one piece. Then I journaled in white to tell a bit of the story.

Cardstock- SU Basic Black & Whisper White
Die- Silhouette Studio # 50523 Designed by Sweet Afton
Pen- White Uni-ball Gen Pen

The month of May happened during the middle of this week. I still can't believe it's already halfway thru the year 2014. Life just passes by way too fast. My baby sister turned 28 on the 1st. I honestly don't know how that happened. I still think she is still 12.
I documented this pocket with less embellishments to keep the focus on the new month.

Cardstock- SU Basic Black
Patterned Paper- Lawn Fawn
Stamp- Hello from Studio Calico Yes, Please kit
Month Die- Silhouette Studio #38866 Designed by Kolette Hall
Embellishments- SU Dolie, MMI Enamel Dots

These 2 pictures show Noah having fun at Catch Air. It's a huge building with inflatables, playgrounds with slides, and ball pits. He loved the ball pit and was in there for about an hour.

Patterned Paper - Lawn Fawn
Label Stickers- October Afternoon
Flair Button- Lily Bee Designs
Alphabet- Thickers "Apartment"
Pen- Project Life 08 Black

The look on his face as he was coming down this side of the slide was priceless. He kept yelling "Ma, I go so fast!" I love to see excitement in his eyes!!

Patterned Paper- Lawn Fawn
Ink- Memento Black
Dies- Wish You Were Here Lawn Fawn
Stamps- Wish You Were Here Lawn Fawn
Silhouette Die- Fast Lane #7138 Design by Loni Stevens

Here is the back of my page. There isn't a whole lot of embellishments on this one as its showing more pictures of products than anything. I found a new scrapbook store and I was in heaven! Once Archivers closed, I thought I was out of luck with local scrapbook stores. I was so wrong. I hit the mother load yesterday! It is such a cute house with so much to offer on the inside and the lady that helped me was so nice and helpful. The store is called Impressive Ideas and if you are ever in the Roswell, Georgia area, please stop by!

I stocked up on Lawn Fawn stamps and dies that I have been wanting for months but are always out of stock when I go to look for them. The store had all the ones I wanted except one set. I was on cloud 9!! I also picked up some embossing paste and a stencil that I've been wanting to try. New techniques coming soon to the blog!

One of my two favorite parts of this layout is the journal card that is so cute regarding May 4th. You can find it with a few more ideas here. The other favorite is the shaker card I made at the top of the page. I made it to showcase National Scrapbooking Day and I may have also wanted to use those Lawn Fawn sequins.

Two of the key components of a shaker card is clear acetate and the thick tape to help raise the middle of the card. I didn't have any clear acetate so I compromised. I have way too many pocket pages. Yes, I freely admitted that. Hopefully, the husband isn't reading this post. I decided that it was strong enough to just cut apart and make the sizes that I needed.

**Disclaimer- The pictures I am about to show you are not professional. In fact, far from it**
It's dark and I didn't really know of another way to show this procedure.

I started with this pocket page. I don't know where it came from but I knew it wouldn't be one I would reach for often so I didn't feel too bad about cutting it up.

I cut it down the middle with my trimmer.

From there, I cut the pocket on all sides that were closed to allow it to become 2 separate pieces.

Then I cut it them down to two 4x3 sizes and one 6x4 size. They are very sturdy and definitely good enough to use when you decide on a whim to make a shaker card.

I plan on making another one soon and I will provide a better tutorial on how to put one together. Here is a picture of the finished one from today.

Fun, right? So cute, I know! I am in love with how it turned out!

Hope I have inspired you to maybe try and make one as well. They are so much fun to make and really do provide entertainment shaking it around. It's like a kid with a new toy. Or a crafter with pretty sparkly sequins to shake. The fun printable is from Cathy Zielske and can be found here. She has a few more that she made that you may like better than this one.

Leave me a comment if you do try to make one and I would love to check out yours. If you have any questions, please let me know as well.

That's the end of another week and it wouldn't be right to close out this post without saying "May The Fourth Be with You!"

Happy Stampin,
