DD #86 - Pool Party & Pink Pirouette

Good afternoon from Gatlinburg, Tennessee! We decided to take a last minute family trip due to a long weekend for the boys. We left on Thursday late in the afternoon and was hoping to be here by no later than 8:00. That so did not happen!

The National Park was closed due snow and ice. One would think that help by detour would have been available but it was not. We turned around and headed back the way we came. Along the way we ran smack into the biggest elk that we have ever seen. He was just standing in the middle of the road as if we were in his way. Truth be told he would have won if we were in a battle of the road. He stood about 8ft tall and was actually beautiful in a crazy huge animal kind of way.

Anyways.... we ended up on a hour detour but finally made it around 10:30. Our cabin is so cute and we are nestled up on a hill. Yesterday was a lazy day and it snowed a little. As soon as Noah saw the snow falling he immediately put on his outside gear to play in it. Here are a few pics of his adventure.

He thought it was hilarious to try and catch the snow flakes. I was the smart one and stood on the inside to take pictures. It was FREEZING out there!! All that mattered was that he was having a good time. My oldest was ready for inches and inches of snow but unfortunately that was not the case yesterday. He was ready for it though, just in case.

How he is already 13 just blows my mind. There are days that I think he should only be 5 without a care in the world. Why do our babies have to grow up so fast?

We are headed to Ober, Gatlinburg in a bit to go snow tubing and build a snowman <--- Noah's choice. None of us know how to ski so we aren't even going to attempt it. I'll just stick with the simple stuff.

Before we head off, I wanted to share the card I made for this weeks Dynamic Duos challenge. The colors that we are working with are

I had a bit of trouble coming up with something at first. I'm not a big fan of subtle colors. Probably because I have boys and we don't do subtle on anything especially colors. I have to say though that I think my card turned out pretty cute.

I love the look of filling in the hexagon dies with my SU hexagon embossing folder. What I found out though is mine doesn't look as good when I "fussy" cut them. Since I am a lover of ALL crafty things I had a die from another favorite that matched the inside perfectly!! It's like magic :)

Hope this challenges you to use colors that you may not reach for often. Sometimes you make something that you are actually pretty proud of in the end.

Have a great day and happy stampin!

  1. I think this is my favorite DT card from this week's challenge (but don't tell the other girls--don't want any hurt feelers, as my boys would say). The stitched hexies and that die-cut Thanks are awesome. Great texture and dimension. Thanks for sharing the photos of your winter holiday. We've got LOTS of snow for you up here...

  2. What a lovely card! I really like the hexagon buttons. Great dimension with the embossing and filling a few spaces. Very nicely done.

  3. So, so sweet! I just love the hexagon buttons!

  4. This is so pretty.. I love how you used the colors and the hexagons really pop!

  5. Angel, this is adorable! I love your hexagon creation, and you mastered the subtly yours colors! :)

  6. So cute!! Love the hexagons and the die cut sentiment- perfect for our Subtles challenge :-)

  7. I remember telling you on FB how adorable this was...let me say again, this is ADORABLE!
