Photoshop + Subway Art = Love

I have dabbled in Photoshop here and there. Created a love/hate relationship with it. Went back for more torture and eventually broke up. I would wait a few months and attempt to the courage to play with it again only to be let down again. I knew that eventually I was going to have to conquer it one way or another. I will have to thank Pinterest for my most recent interest in it which I can thank them for a lot more ideas that are floating around in my head. Darn you, Pinterest.

I love the craze of subway art. My son asked me yesterday why it was called that. I didn't have an answer for him because I didn't know. I couldn't even make up a good make believe answer for it either. Darn you, Mom. We are suppose to have the answers magically appear when your child has a question, right?

Anyways, after much drooling over how awesome subway art is and all of the great ideas, I decided it was time to hook up with Photoshop again. This time I was not going to let it get the best of me. No sir! My very sweet husband purchased the newest version of Photoshop Elements (10) for our Mac and surprised me with it. I guess he was ready for me to figure it out as well. I'm trying to centralize everything to Mac because this is also something I'm trying to get use to. I've always been a Windows girl so another learning curve is exactly what I needed.

In the past, I've always tried to learn PS myself. This is not recommended. At least, not for me. I don't have the patience like I use to and I like learning from someone who knows what they are doing. I found what is now one of my favorite websites for multiple reasons... She is amazing and I think she knows it all. Photoshop, Digital Scrapbooking, Photo Editing, etc. You name it, she does it. She may be my own personal hero after it's all said and done. No, I'm not stalking her... yet.

She has tons of classes, videos and tutorials about the above mentioned. When I found the class teaching how to make subway art, I was ecstatic. I had to take this class pronto and that is exactly what I did. I paid for, downloaded and started the class on Friday. By Sunday afternoon I had made my very on subway art ALL BY MYSELF and I didn't even break up with PSE. Yay for me. Applause is welcome. I am so proud of the way it turned out and I have so many more ideas crowding my already overwhelmed brain.

Here are a few pictures showing the final project. Enjoy.

I get giddy every time I look at it because I made it. I took the time to learn it and do it right. This one is in an 8x10 because that is the biggest I can print from my house. I went to Shutterfly last night because I know that they will print on canvas and what do you know, they are having a sale on canvas prints until May 1. Coincidence, I think not. I will have a big one made for our foyer for all to enjoy when they come to visit us.

I have ideas to make one for both of my boys, my Gma, friends, etc. What will be next? Wait to see very soon :)

A Design by ME!

My good and very sweet Jamie has started a new photography business. She is doing fabulous at it and I'm so proud of her for taking a step of faith and making her passion happen. I always knew she'd do great work one day because she is very talented in this field. She asked me a few weeks ago to make her a banner for family pictures. I love making banners so I took this idea and ran straight to Michaels. If you ever need any inspiration that is the place to run to.

I didn't want to just make it out of paper so when I saw the burlap on the shelf a light bulb went off in my head. Perfect!! I grabbed a couple of sheets of it, some ribbon and a few sheets of paper. I knew what I wanted it to look like so now I just had to make it happen. To my surprise, it happened in less than 45 minutes. I finished it, jumped up to take a picture, and sent it in to text messaging land to Jamie. She loved it and I was thrilled. I boxed it up via UPS and mailed it the very next day.

When she received it 2 days later she still loved it even in person. Haha. Some things look different in person than it does from a camera. I had to make sure that she still liked it before I got too excited. She had to families to photograph on Friday and Saturday and was planning to use the banner for them.

Later on that evening she tags me in a post on Facebook of the beautiful pictures she took of this family and my banner. Okay, I'm getting a little excited about a banner made of burlap but I'm perfectly fine about it. It was my creation that someone else liked and used it for her beautiful work. I was over the moon.

She was so sweet to take a picture of it so I could share with all of my friends and family here on my blog. Thanks again Jamie for believing in me. You do great work and God has many plans for you and your business.
