Photoshop + Subway Art = Love

I have dabbled in Photoshop here and there. Created a love/hate relationship with it. Went back for more torture and eventually broke up. I would wait a few months and attempt to the courage to play with it again only to be let down again. I knew that eventually I was going to have to conquer it one way or another. I will have to thank Pinterest for my most recent interest in it which I can thank them for a lot more ideas that are floating around in my head. Darn you, Pinterest.

I love the craze of subway art. My son asked me yesterday why it was called that. I didn't have an answer for him because I didn't know. I couldn't even make up a good make believe answer for it either. Darn you, Mom. We are suppose to have the answers magically appear when your child has a question, right?

Anyways, after much drooling over how awesome subway art is and all of the great ideas, I decided it was time to hook up with Photoshop again. This time I was not going to let it get the best of me. No sir! My very sweet husband purchased the newest version of Photoshop Elements (10) for our Mac and surprised me with it. I guess he was ready for me to figure it out as well. I'm trying to centralize everything to Mac because this is also something I'm trying to get use to. I've always been a Windows girl so another learning curve is exactly what I needed.

In the past, I've always tried to learn PS myself. This is not recommended. At least, not for me. I don't have the patience like I use to and I like learning from someone who knows what they are doing. I found what is now one of my favorite websites for multiple reasons... www.jessicasprague.com. She is amazing and I think she knows it all. Photoshop, Digital Scrapbooking, Photo Editing, etc. You name it, she does it. She may be my own personal hero after it's all said and done. No, I'm not stalking her... yet.

She has tons of classes, videos and tutorials about the above mentioned. When I found the class teaching how to make subway art, I was ecstatic. I had to take this class pronto and that is exactly what I did. I paid for, downloaded and started the class on Friday. By Sunday afternoon I had made my very on subway art ALL BY MYSELF and I didn't even break up with PSE. Yay for me. Applause is welcome. I am so proud of the way it turned out and I have so many more ideas crowding my already overwhelmed brain.

Here are a few pictures showing the final project. Enjoy.

I get giddy every time I look at it because I made it. I took the time to learn it and do it right. This one is in an 8x10 because that is the biggest I can print from my house. I went to Shutterfly last night because I know that they will print on canvas and what do you know, they are having a sale on canvas prints until May 1. Coincidence, I think not. I will have a big one made for our foyer for all to enjoy when they come to visit us.

I have ideas to make one for both of my boys, my Gma, friends, etc. What will be next? Wait to see very soon :)

A Design by ME!

My good and very sweet Jamie has started a new photography business. She is doing fabulous at it and I'm so proud of her for taking a step of faith and making her passion happen. I always knew she'd do great work one day because she is very talented in this field. She asked me a few weeks ago to make her a banner for family pictures. I love making banners so I took this idea and ran straight to Michaels. If you ever need any inspiration that is the place to run to.

I didn't want to just make it out of paper so when I saw the burlap on the shelf a light bulb went off in my head. Perfect!! I grabbed a couple of sheets of it, some ribbon and a few sheets of paper. I knew what I wanted it to look like so now I just had to make it happen. To my surprise, it happened in less than 45 minutes. I finished it, jumped up to take a picture, and sent it in to text messaging land to Jamie. She loved it and I was thrilled. I boxed it up via UPS and mailed it the very next day.

When she received it 2 days later she still loved it even in person. Haha. Some things look different in person than it does from a camera. I had to make sure that she still liked it before I got too excited. She had to families to photograph on Friday and Saturday and was planning to use the banner for them.

Later on that evening she tags me in a post on Facebook of the beautiful pictures she took of this family and my banner. Okay, I'm getting a little excited about a banner made of burlap but I'm perfectly fine about it. It was my creation that someone else liked and used it for her beautiful work. I was over the moon.

She was so sweet to take a picture of it so I could share with all of my friends and family here on my blog. Thanks again Jamie for believing in me. You do great work and God has many plans for you and your business.

Craft Area

I love that I have a craft area in my home. It's my space that I love to be in and makes me happy. So why can't I ever keep it tidy and clean. I see this is a problem for a lot of women who have craft areas. I'll clean it up and get everything organized only to start a project the next day and dirty it all up again. It's so much  fun when you are being crafty!

My sweet hubby moved his office upstairs last week and realized that he didn't need one of his desks so he gave it to me. I've been working off of a six foot white table. I felt like a queen when this new desk waltzed in here all black and sassy. It has 7 drawers and a nice big desk top. Two of the drawers are made for hanging file folders so being organized just got so much easier. I felt like I went from the trailer park to the country club, ha!

My best friend visited last week so I didn't get much done as far as projects but I plan on getting back in to the groove this weekend and next week. I've missed blogging, participating in challenges and looking at everyone else's creations. I promise to post pics of my new desk but only after I clean it up :)

Hope everyone has a great night.

Chore Chart Update

Success! Success! Success! Well... the first week that is. He was so excited about doing his chores (okay, he was somewhat excited), loved checking off his list (okay, maybe I enjoyed watching him place check marks in those little boxes), and loved getting his allowance at the end of the week based on what he'd accomplished (okay, he was really excited about this part). He used some of his money this past weekend to get himself something and was really proud of it.

Let me back up and say that I think most of his success the first week was based on Mom walking behind him and reminding him of all he had to do and filling out the cards for him when he "forgot" or was "busy" doing other things. I told him this past Sunday night that this week he was on his own. Mom wasn't going to remind him to do his chores or make sure they were checked off. Monday was a good day. Tuesday was not so good and yesterday was just like pulling teeth to get it done. He decided to go to bed and not complete his Tuesday night card. I reminded him of it which I know I said I wouldn't do but I'm working on myself too. He just rolled his eyes and turned over. Yeah, not a smart thing to do with a Mom who is trying to prove points. He figured he would just mark off everything on Wednesday morning. Nope, doesn't work that way. I had to show tough love and let him know that this is the way it works and that he was not getting any points for that card. Yes, I was officially (in his eyes) the MEANEST.MOM.EVER! I personally think that if you are ever awarded that by your child you are doing something right. I, of coarse, had to walk away before the begging and pleading started or he gave me "those" eyes. Yes, you know what I'm talking about.
Hubby said he was proud of me for not caving which made me happy and smiling and patting myself on the back. Wait, this is about Caleb not me. FOCUS!!

Anyways, long story short, here we are on Thursday. There are quite a few things not checked off on this weeks cards but I'm ready to show him the lesson when he doesn't get as much allowance as last week. When it's time to ask for a new game on his iPad and he doesn't have the money to pay for it I hoping it sparks some interest to do better next week.

Now maybe I need to make a chore chart for myself because I've got a lot to do in the next few days!
Hope everyone has a great day!

Chores

I'm not really quite sure who is worse... Caleb or myself. Okay, being that I'm the grown up, the mom and technically should be better, I'll take the blame. He doesn't like doing chores and I'm not good horrible about being consistent and making him stay on track. I'm sure it's the ADD that we both are so lucky to have that keeps us both off track but NO MORE EXCUSES.

I'm tired of getting mad at him for not doing what he's suppose to do and he's tired of hearing me repeat myself over and over and over and over. Okay, you get the drift. So, I decided to make this fun for the both of us. I pulled out my fun boy paper and went to work on a project. It took me less than an hour to pick out the paper, figure out what I wanted to do and create it. I'm pretty sure that's a record for me and I should get some type of award :)

Here is what I came up with

The paper is from Echo Park's line Little Boy. I love all the colors. The letters are from Bo Bunny and I've had them for sooo long. I can't believe that I was able to find all the letters to fit just right. Must've been fate. I made up chores in Word for each morning, afternoon and night for every night of the week. He has an task so he knows exactly what he has to do. No questions asked because believe me, he would come up with 10. He knows what he gets and what he doesn't get at the end of the week. Now I have to stay consistent and he has to get his chores done. I have a really good feeling about this. Lord, help me.

Here is what it looks like with his appropriate card just waiting for him to check off everything he's done. He did really good this afternoon and evening and even seemed to have fun doing it. I hope this helps us get along a little better. Morning time seems to be our worst time of the day. He is not a morning person and I don't like bad attitudes.

I'll fill everyone in on how it went at the end of the week. Wish us luck!

Fun Weekend

I'm a little late getting this post up. I had planned on doing it Monday but it's that whole organizational thing that I've got to figure out. I'm going to conquer. I am. I will.

So, this past weekend was so much fun. In a last minute request from a friend, I went to an all weekend crop at the most beautiful bed and breakfast E.V.E.R! It's about an hour from home and it's called Glen Ella Springs and is worth every penny. My husband was so sweet and told me to go and he would take care of everything and not worry about a thing. Yep, I'll keep him :)

There were about 14 other women that spent the weekend cropping and making beautiful things. I met some wonderful women who I can now call friends. We talked, laughed, ate, cropped, ate, listened to music, ate, etc. See a pattern here. I had to physically tell myself to walk away from the peanut M&M's. It's like there is crack in each little one. So yummy....

I had a plan of action in my head and I got right to it after we set up everything. I was so focused and even kinda impressed myself. I wanted to make Noah a cute ABC book that he could keep forever. After the time and work put in to the book, he will not touch the book without my supervision. Okay, that sounds harsh but seriously, he would rip a page and that would rip my heart out. It's so cute. Just sayin.... (Pics to come soon)

After I was finished with the book, I had a little bit of time so I decided to make a card for my sweet hubby for taking care of the boys all weekend and only had to ask me once where something was. It was so relieving to not have to worry at all.

Here is the card I made him... sorry for the bad lighting. Big camera had a dead battery.

Materials to be posted soon! Enjoy!

MCT Throwback Thursday Challenge

Better late than never, huh? Emma over at My Creative Time is having another Throwback Thursday challenge. Okay, well its been going on for 2 weeks now and today is the last day to enter. I finished my card tonight and entering it as soon as I finish this post. Hey, don't judge.

I am loving the Everyday Paper Dolls Cricut cartridge! The challenge is to make something from a sports cartridge but if you don't have one it has to be sports themed. I immediately went to this cartridge and found something sports related. It turned out way better than I imagined. So excited to show it here.

I will have to say that this is not my "go to" colors for football but I didn't have  the right orange for a Gator themed cheerleader. I kinda needed to schmooze (<---yes, that's a word) the hubby so I made it a Bama theme so he would give it a great big smile when I showed it to him. Like how I work it, don't cha?

Anyways, here's the card....

Items used:
Cardstock- Bazzill
Cricut Cartridge- Everyday Paper Dolls
Peachy Keen Stamps for face
Maraschino and Charcoal twine- The Twinery
Banners and Background Stamp- My Creative Time

Thanks for looking! Hope you enjoyed my card.

One of my resolutions this year was to be more crafty and to enter more challenges. I've been in my craft room the past 3 days and I'm entering a challenge. I guess you could say I'm doing pretty well so far. This is my first time entering anything with these stamps because up until yesterday I've never owned any. My sweet husband took a peek at my wish list, ordered a few of my favorites and surprised me with them yesterday. I got right to work on this cute card so I could submit in the challenge.

Items used:
Create A Critter cartridge
Peachy Keen Stamps Wide Eyed Kids
My Creative Time Stamps 100% Sweetness
Top Note Die from Stampin Up
Marashino Twine from The Twinery
Stickles
Chalk

The card was a lot of fun to make and I finally used my Gypsy which is another thing I wanted to do. Could one say I'm on a roll? Better not jinx myself.

Thanks for looking!

Brand New Year!

So ready for a new year full of creativity, projects and getting things done! I was on a long 10 day vacation with my family and when we returned home today I had a very exciting package waiting for me in the mail.

I absolutely love Emma over at My Creative Time and when I received 3 gift certificates for Christmas to use on her stamps and dies I couldn't wait to use them. They were burning holes in my pockets. I've only used 2 of them and think I will wait for her next release to use the 3rd one. I am determined to get more involved in making projects and using these stamps and dies will make it so much more fun to do!

Please continue to come back and see what I will in store for you to look at and enjoy. Hope everyone is having a great start to the New Year!!
